Jog Falls: Water in all Majesty
Jog Falls is India's tallest waterfall with a height of 253 meters. It is located in the Shimoga district of the state of Karnataka. Located on the river of Sharavathi, these segmented water falls are a tourist pull. Other names for this falls are Gersoppa Falls, Gerusoppe falls, or Jogada Gundi in the local dialect.
This water falls is called the highest waterfalls as it falls without tiers in a single drop unlike others which streams through rocks. The points awarded to the water falls by the waterfall database are 83 scenic points in comparison to the 97 given to the Angel falls.
At the falls, the river Sharavathi splits itself into four different plumes named Raja (king), Roarer, Rocket and Rani (Queen).
Raja is named the king because of its royal looking serenity. Roarer makes a tremendous noise because of the rocks in its pathway. Rocket streams out of a narrow pathway at a very high speed. Rani moves in a swirling motion reminding the movements of a dancer.
During the summer, the jog falls have only a very thin stream falling through it as the water of river is dammed for the generation of electricity. However to keep up the tourism, the authorities open the dam during the weekends during the summertime also.
But, during the monsoons, fed by the rain water, the falls attain its majestic look. The majestic beauty of the jog falls can be viewed from below the falls also, by going down a narrow path.
