Moon Rises where the Sun Set
Wish to see both sun set and moon rise from the same spot? Come to Thankassery beach. This beach is located in the district of Kollam in Kerala. This is a rare place from where it is possible to see both sun setting and moon rising at the same time. The beautiful sands of the beach will be bathed in the reddish light of the setting sun while the pale moon rises from the horizon.
Other than the beautiful and scenic ocean, the beach also has historical importance. Thankassery was first a Portugal colony. Later on the Dutch and then the British has ruled over these parts and the beach has many buildings resources which are of archeological importance. The beach has the remains of an old fort built by the Portuguese. There are also churches build in the eighteenth century before the independence of India. These churches have followed the style prevalent in those times and it is beautiful to see how Indian culture mixes with the western beliefs in these buildings.
Another structure that is a tourist attraction is the light house built in 1902. This was built by the British rulers of that era. The light house is about 144 feet tall and gives a beautiful view of the sea.
Thankassery beach is a paradise for people looking for a spot for sun bathing, swimming or boating. People who are more of adventurous nature should also visit this beach as the beach has provisions for fun activities like scuba diving, surfing or parasailing.
