Athirappilly Water Falls
Athirappilly Falls situated in Thrissur district of Kerala, is 24-metre high. It is located on the Chalakudy River which flows to the Arabaian Sea. The view of the Athirappilly Falls from the bottom that shows the cascading milky white water is stunning. The splendor of the Athirappilly Falls has made it a sought after spot by film makers to shoot their films.
The river near its origins runs smoothly, but turns turbulent near Athirappilly. At the Falls, the water divides into three beautiful columns which are separated by huge rocks. After the falls, the river remains turbulent for a short distance.
To reach the waterfalls, the nearest railway station is about 30 kilo meters away. The airport nearest to the Athirappilly Falls is Kochi International Airport which is at a distance of about 55 kilo meters. It is easy to reach the waterfalls traveling in taxi or the buses of public transport services.
Being located on the national highway between the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, lined with forest inhabited by many wild animals like elephants, driving through these roads at night is therefore not safe. But during day time, the journey to the Athirappilly Falls is very scenic passing through winding roads, tiny villages and beautiful lush green trees.
To reach the top of the Athirappilly Falls, you will have to walk through a paved path through a jungle of thick clusters of bamboo. A very steep and narrow path can be taken to reach the bottom of the water falls.
