Bye-Bye Japan
The first Penalty shootout in the 2010 FIFA World Cup has left no hopes for Asia of winning the tournament. The last Asian team left in the tournament, Japan lost to Paraguay 5-3 in shootout.
Japan was in the group E with Holland, Denmark and Cameroon. Japan entered the round of 16 as the runner up of the group after defeating Cameroon for 1-0 and Denmark for 3-1. They went down before the group topper Netherlands for 0-1.
During the knock out stage of the world cup, Japan had to play the winners of Group E, Paraguay. Both teams failed to score during the ninety minutes of the game and were given the extra time of 30 minutes. Even though both teams tried to move the score board, free kicks and throws never reached the mark.
During the penalty shootout, the Japanese defender Yuichi Komano couldn't score on his penalty attempt with the strike on the crossbar. When Paraguay's final spot kick moved past the goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima into the net, the South Americans finally made it to the final eight of a world cup tournament.
Edgar Barreto, Lucas Barrios, Cristian Riveros, Nelson Valdez and Cardozo scored for the Paraguay team. While Yasuhito Endo, Makoto Hasebe and Keisuke Honda made the jabualni go past the goal line.
While the Japanse levae the touranmant in tears, with the Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino's tears of happiness, Paraguay moves on to play the quarter-finals against the winner of the Spain - Portugal match.
