Fitting in a New Job
Often, it is rather difficult to get a new job; it is even more stressful to fit into the new environment. Other than the changes in the job profile, the new comer will have to adjust to the changes in the work culture and the interpersonal relationships with the new colleagues. It would be much easier to fit in if a few tips are followed.
Firstly, make sure that you follow the company's dress code. Be well groomed and not exaggeratedly flashy with the appearance.
While on the work desk, avoid screen savers on your computer that could be distracting. Do not clutter the work desk with too much of personal belongings not related to work profile.
Try to get to work a bit earlier than the stipulated time. Find some time to chat with the new colleagues before the official hours. Similarly, stay back for some time at the end of the day and get accustomed to the new colleagues without disturbing them during their work time.
While trying to make new friends try not to scare them away. Be polite and let them invite you to their circle of friends. Before you are sure of your colleagues and work culture, do not be argumentative or aggressive during discussions, better is to avoid topics like religion or politics that might bring up a debate.
Finally, if invited to join in the office gossip, remain a good listener and do not volunteer your views or opinions. Never grumble against the new colleagues.
