65 Red Roses: Eva Markvoort
Eva Markvoort was a young woman who died at the age of 25. She suffered from a genetic problem called Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis causes clogging of the lungs and makes breathing difficult.
She captured the hearts of many through her blog. With about a million readers she used her blog to educate the public on the difficulties living with the disease. In spite of the frequent illnesses, Eva Markvoort posted inspiring messages which proclaimed her happiness of being alive and loved. She was thankful for the support of her family and friends and wrote messages that moved many around the world.
Eva Markvoort starred in a documentary film in 2007 which was based on her life story. It was named 65 Red Roses, like her blog. In the end of the documentary, Eva got the double lung transplant for which she had been waiting as her own lungs were damaged beyond restoration.
But the happiness didn't last long as later on Eva Markvoort became sicker as her body rejected her new lungs. In January 2010, She uploaded a new video on her blog in which she said that she would be dying soon but would fight on as long as possible and celebrate her life.
While in hospital, she was awarded by the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis for her effort for increasing the awareness about the disease. She also received her college diploma even though she had not completed all the required credits due to her ill health. She passed away on 27th of March.
