Default Better Food for Better Teeth

Everyone knows that certain food items causes decay of teeth. But, conversely certain food can effectively fight teeth decay.

Avoiding sweets and candies in large quantifies is always better for teeth, as the concentrated sugar present in such food, fuels bacterial growth which in turn causes caries. Carbonated drinks are acidic in content and will lower the ph of the mouth and result in softened enamels, so avoid them as much as possible. Junk food has a sticky nature which increases the bacterial growth manifold. Also food which contains high amounts preservatives must be avoided for the same reason. Acidic preparations like pickles are also harmful o teeth.

Indulge with cheese. Milk products are high in calcium and phosphorous content which are essential for healthy teeth. Cheese also helps by preventing demineralization of the teeth.

Drinking plenty of black or green tea also helps in maintaining the health of teeth. The ingredients in them reduce bacterial growth and also help in reducing the acidity of mouth.

Fresh fruits and vegetables have higher fiber content which helps the health of teeth. They are anti-bacterial in nature. Teeth can be made cleaner by munching on a fresh fruit. The greens are also high in vitamin-content which are great for healthy teeth. Also, the various contents of the greens counteracts with the secretions of plaque.

Food items with higher water content will help by diluting the sugar and increasing the secretion of saliva. Chewing sugar free gums will remove minute food particles wedged between the teeth.

Citrus fruit, in particular bitter, like grapefruit and lemons are best for teeth because it contain lot of vitamin C. One of its many medicinal properties is that it reduces the bleeding of the gums, and can protect them effectively. These fruits are also full of lots of other vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, so must eat every day.

We eat and we think that food affects our teeth badly. Different fruits like apples, strawberries, citrus fruits, specially kiwis, contain a lot of vitamin C. It is considered the cement that holds all of your cells together, so just as it’s vital for your skin, it’s important for the health of your gum tissue. If you don’t get enough vitamin C, researches show that the collagen network in your gums can break down, making your gums tender and more susceptible to the bacteria that cause periodontal disease.
