BPO industry in India
India has a huge BPO sector with revenue of about 10.9 billion US Dollars from offshore BPO constituting of 63% of global offshore revenue. The different segments of BPO in India are retail banking, insurance, travel, hospitality services, automobiles, telecoms and pharmaceuticals.
The important locations of the BPO sector in India are Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai. Top five companies in the Indian BPO sector are WNS Global Services, IBM Daksh, Genpact, Transworks Information Services, and BPO of TCS.
The growth in the BPO sector is mainly due to the flexibility it gives the outsourcing company. The flexibility may be in resource management and in time management. Another factor that supports outsourcing is that the company can concentrate only on its core business while outsourcing the other aspects like the administrative works. Outsourcing also increases the speed of the business processes on a whole as a specialist can cater to the needs faster than the overall company.
Indian BPO sector provides these services and has improved the Indian economy by enabling more opportunities to the educated sector of the country.
Nowadays, even with the growth in the BPO segment within India, the overall global revenue of Indian BPO sector has dropped from 70% to 63%. This is mainly due to new competitors in countries in Eastern Europe, Philippines, Morocco, Egypt and South Africa. China is also an emerging competitor with special training being provided to the eligible for catering to the needs of the BPO Sector.
