Default The alternative Nobel Prize

Located in Stockholm, Sweden, 'The Right Livelihood Award Foundation' is a charity organization. It is politically independent and forms an arena in which its laureates and awardees voice their concerns for the world.

The foundation presents the awards in honor of people who propose practical solutions to problems faced by today's world. Presented every year, in Stockholm, the award is widely known as the ‘The Alternative Nobel Prize.’

The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage scientific research, promote education, public understanding and initiate practical activities so as to develop a better ecological balance of the world. It is aiming at eliminating material and spiritual poverty and thus to form eternal peace and justice in the whole world.

Many of the awardees are from countries where they are tortured and regressed by the ruling government. For such oppressed fighters, the award not only gives the much needed financial support but also acts as a protection by bringing the issue and the laureate to the notice of the whole world.

Laureates who work for issues like protection of the environment, peace and justice, human rights, sustainability, culture, development, and children have been honored by the foundation.

The foundation is sustaining by donations of concerned citizens of various countries around the world. With partner organizations located in countries like the United States of America, Germany and Switzerland, the foundation has a huge web of recipients of the award, donors, and other supporters covering all five continents of the world.

The Nobel Prizes (phonetic: [nobél], definite form, singular, Swedish: Nobelpriset, Norwegian: Nobelprisen) are annual international awards bestowed by Scandinavian committees in recognition of cultural and scientific advances. The will of the Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, established the prizes in 1895.
