Bindi: Traditional yet Trendy

Traditionally the red spot of bindi is applied on the forehead towards the center of the eyebrows. In the earlier days, bindis were applied only using vermilion powder in the shape of a circle. But with changing times, bindi has changed too. It could be of any color or shape. Sometimes, 3 or more small bindis are worn together in a design to form a trendy style.
Bindis were worn in the ancient belief that it adds to the power of mental concentration. It is also symbolic form of good charm and auspiciousness.
But nowadays, the availability of a selection of colors in liquid form has made the fashion of making the bindi to complement the outfit worn. The ordinary circular bindi has been changed into shapes that match the design of the dress worn with it.
The use of stick-on bindis has made bindi an easy to use fashion accessory. This reduces the mess of using a liquid or powder color and it is already in a perfect shape that only needs to be applied. Such stick-on bindis are generally formed from felt-cloth with gum on one side. Glistening stones are often added to bindi.
Nowadays, globally also bindis have been used as a fashion statement. Celebrities like Shakira, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado and Julia Roberts has been patronizing bindis.
