One of the mot aggressive areas of the computing industry is sales and marketing. Almost all IT companies are known to be aggressive and ready to do anything to eliminate competition. Most IT companies have separate and marketing divisions. The marketing divisions are normally in charge of introducing new products and creating a brand image. The sales departments which normally regional activity centers are involved with booking orders. In many small IT companies these two are not separate departments and sales and marketing is clubbed as one function.
A good sales person must normally have a good knowledge of the company's products and services and be able to effectively understand needs of clients in order to win their confidence. |

Sales and marketing are the two feeding branches of any company, but we should also remember that in IT industry reputation is build on the basis of Technical Support and it is very much important to have a sound Technical Staff if you want to gain some reputation in the IT market.

Sales and marketing functions are diverse yet very interdependent. Typically sales can not exceed revenue objectives without an effective marketing planning and support, and marketing directives ultimately be useless without sales to implement the plan.
